So how can we work together?
There are 2 main options: Information on both options is below...
Option 1: Help With One-Off Projects
If you’re just wanting help with specific projects, that’s absolutely fine.
FX Marketing would discuss these projects with you on the phone or via email, and then provide an estimate for you to approve before any work is commenced.
(If you’d prefer to brief us face-to-face, that’s fine. The briefing meeting including the travel time would be invoiced to you at this hourly rate too.)
If there are any events which would exceed the estimate given, we would let you know, as FX Marketing acknowledges the importance of accurate budgeting for your business. (We're firm believers that there should never be any nasty surprises at invoice time!)
The rate for working on one-off projects is $150 an hour, and there is a 2 hour minimum charge (i.e. $300 + GST).
All prices are in New Zealand Dollars and subject to GST. You may either be invoiced in advance with work commencing once cleared funds are received. This is especially likely if you're a new client... we'd prefer to help you with your marketing than chase you for money!.
Otherwise you'll be invoiced in arrears; payment terms are strictly 7 days; please see our Terms of Business for more information.
The preferred payment method is direct credit to our bank account - full details will be on your invoice.

Option 2: Regular Marketing Help Is Yours With A Marketing Success Programme
If you're looking for regular, monthly marketing help, then you'll enjoy a lower hourly rate as well as a host of other benefits with a Marketing Success Programme...
What is a Marketing Success Programme?
Basically it's a Retainer where you pay us each month to work for you. The options are for either 5 or 10 hours a month. (If you'd like more time, that's fine, just contact us to discuss your needs.)
But unlike other Retainers where the suppliers sits and waits for you to tell them to do stuff, there's a loose structure in place that sees us working as a team.
As you've probably had a Marketing Action Plan, that immediately gives us a plan to work to, and we'll help you implement it.
We'll pick out some priority projects, work on them, and when they're complete (or nearly complete), we'll work on the next priority level projects.
Part of the process involves you providing us with results, measurement and feedback, so that we can learn together and tweak anything that needs tweaking. This is a continual process:
We can't stress the importance of the measurement and feedback enough: the more you tell us, and the closer we work with you, the better the results.
What are the benefits of a Marketing Success Programme, rather than using FX Marketing on a one-off basis?
Is it essential to have a Marketing Action Plan first?
It's definitely important to have an agreed list of priorities to work from. And that's exactly what a Marketing Action Plan is.
That said, in honesty not every business needs a Marketing Action Plan: we'll only write one if we think you'll get value out of it, or if you insist on it.
So if there's a Marketing Action Plan to work from, then great!
If not, we'll start off by agreeing a set of priority projects upfront and in writing, as that'll form the basis of our work for you.
How often will we meet?
The simple answer is: as often as it's needed!
Obviously we'll need to meet at the outset to agree the immediate set of priorities. And in the first few months, we'll probably meet every month or two - the rest of the time we'll communicate by email and phone.
After that, as things settle down, we'll probably meet 3 or 4 times a year for a review. In that review, we'll evaluate how things are going; share results and feedback; and agree the next set of priorities.
In between times, we'll communicate regularly by phone and email. I'm not keen on having more meetings than is necessary (a throw-back from my time in the corporate world, where we had pre-meeting meetings, the meeting itself, followed by a post-meeting review meeting... and no, sadly, I'm not joking!).
It's about having the right amount of meetings to build up a good relationship, and keep the momentum going.
If you ever feel that you'd like a meeting, and I haven't already suggested it, please do let me know at any time :-) I don't know what's happening at your end unless you tell me!
Is a Marketing Success Programme suitable for start-up businesses?
Yes! FX Marketing has worked with a number of start-up businesses, who want to focus on doing things right rather than bumbling around doing things the long and hard way.
In many cases we'll work together for 3-6 months, after which time the business owner has all the tools, information and knowledge to take over the marketing.
(Or if you'd like us to work with you on an ongoing basis, that's fine too!)
I'm not very organised and need a lot of chasing. Can you do that?
Part of our role is to manage your marketing projects for you, and keep things running on track as much as is possible from our end. As part of that we will follow up on things and remind you of what needs doing.
However, we don't nag or chase excessively. At the end of the day, it's your business, and we're all adults with the ability to manage our time as we wish. So if you're looking to be micro-managed, we're probably not the right company for you.
(It's a pretty weird experience chasing people who don't reply to you - it's much more rewarding to work with clients who are keen, motivated, committed and enthusiastic about their business!)
Availability of Marketing Success Programmes
FX Marketing currently runs a maximum of 5 Marketing Success Programmes at any time.
That's so that we can give each and every client the care and attention they deserve. (And yes, we have turned clients away when things get too busy rather than offer a lack-lustre service.)
New Marketing Success Programme clients are taken on a strictly first-come, first-served basis. So if you're thinking of getting underway, contact us today to secure your spot!
How long does the Marketing Success Programme last for?
That's completely up to you. At the outset we ask for a commitment of a minimum of 3 months; after that, it's on a rolling monthly basis.
Some clients find the 3 months sufficient to get themselves up-and-running, as throughout the time I'll be sharing plenty of information and knowledge with you so you have the skills to do much of your own marketing, should you wish to do so.
Other clients work with us every single month, as they just want to have the hassle of marketing completely taken off their shoulders. Or perhaps they have a regular monthly project (e.g. a newsletter) that they want us to take care of.
Can I switch between Programmes?
Yes, absolutely.
You can upgrade at any time. If you're thinking of moving down, or cancelling completely then we ask for a month's notice, just so we can plan our time and cash flow.
What if I don't use up all the time one month? Or need extra time?
It's quite normal for some months to be up and some months to be down. (Usually, when we start with a new client, we tend to go over time, as there's so much initial work to do!)
To allow for this, FX Marketing will log all the time used on your work, in 15 minute increments. At the end of the month (invoice time) we'll let you know how things are tracking. And if you'd like an update at any other time, just ask.
If you know that you're going to need more time, you can purchase this in 1 hour increments, at the same hourly rate as your Marketing Success Programme.
What do you consider as billable time?
In short, all the time we spend devoted to you is billable. That includes the marketing and copywriting work itself, plus any time spent on phone calls and emails, travel time, meeting time, and so on.
Are there any other costs involved?
FX Marketing will charge you for extras such as courier fees, postage fees, CDs, car parking, etc. related to your project.
However, we don't usually charge for toll calls (unless your project involves a lot of these), and there's no mileage fee.
Of course, to market your business you'll also need to spend money on graphic design, printing, web development, etc. etc... but we'll never every commit to spending anything in your name unless we have your express written permission and agreement.
